Blocked drains in Surrey are something we can sort, but you should know the distance before you ring. Our engineers are based in Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch. Farnham, just over the Hampshire border, is about 64 miles from them by road, while Redhill and Reigate are more than 100. We cover the whole county, and when you call you get a real arrival time when you call, not a number printed on a web page that can't see today's traffic.

The miles and drive times come from a route planner, starting in Christchurch, and they are the best case. Rush hour on the M3 or M25 stretches them. That gap between best case and real life is why we won't print a Surrey arrival window.

Thames Water, Southern Water and Surrey's sewers
Thames Water runs the public sewers across almost all of Surrey. Surrey County Council's drainage pages spell out the exceptions: Thames Water covers 90% of Mole Valley, 60% of Tandridge and 95% of Waverley, and other companies serve the rest. Southern Water is one of them, running the sewage works at Lingfield. If you're unsure, the name on your sewerage bill settles it.

Both companies work to the same split. Any pipe carrying waste from more than one property is theirs, and so is your own drain from the point it crosses your boundary, and they clear those at no charge. Inside your boundary, a pipe taking only your waste is yours to fix, and that's where we come in. More in who is responsible for blocked drains.
Road gullies: Surrey County Council, then two new councils
Surrey County Council looks after about 160,000 roadside drains. It cleans each one at least every two years, and those on main roads or in known trouble spots more often. Report a blocked one through the council's online Tell Us service. Drains in car parks, blocks of flats and private roads belong to their owners, not the council.
From 1 April 2027, two new councils take over roads, and every other service, from the county and district councils. West Surrey Council will cover Guildford, Runnymede, Spelthorne, Surrey Heath, Waverley and Woking. East Surrey Council will cover Elmbridge, Epsom and Ewell, Mole Valley, Reigate and Banstead, and Tandridge. Until then, report road drains as you do now.
Clay, sand and river gravel: Surrey ground and your drains
- London Clay in the north and east. Epsom sits on the spring line, where the chalk of the North Downs meets London Clay. Clay swells when wet and shrinks when dry, and older clay pipes can crack or part at the joints as it moves.
- Sand in the west. Camberley is built mostly on the Bagshot Beds: sand with seams of clay and pebbly gravel. A soakaway in sand usually drains well, but one sitting on a clay seam can fill and stay full.
- Gravel by the Thames. Much of Staines stands on gravel islands in the floodplain of the Thames and Colne, and the town flooded badly in 1894, 1947 and 2014. If your drains only struggle when the rivers are high, a blockage may not be the cause, so talk it through with us before paying for an unblock.
Drain survey Surrey buyers can plan around
Surveys suit the distance far better than emergencies do: there's no flood to race, so we agree a day with you. A CCTV drain survey is from £150, typically £150 to £350 for a house, and a homebuyer drain survey is from £195. We show you the camera footage before we leave, and the written report follows within 48 hours.

Why use a drainage company from Dorset for a job in Surrey?
You don't have to, and we'll say so. When sewage is coming up through a floor, a firm based in Surrey may well reach you first, and speed matters most then. What we offer is a published price list, a fixed price before work starts and camera footage of the finished job. If that matters more to you than the quickest arrival, call and compare.
How long will it take you to reach Guildford?
Guildford is about 75 miles by road from Christchurch, where our nearest engineers are based. On a clear road that's around an hour and 35 minutes of driving before we arrive. Ring us and we'll work out a real time for your address from where the team is. For a real emergency, if someone nearer can come much sooner, we'll tell you.
Who clears a blocked drain in the road in Woking?
Surrey County Council, for now: report it through its Tell Us service online. From 1 April 2027 the job passes to the new West Surrey Council, which will cover Woking, Guildford and four other boroughs. If sewage rather than rainwater is coming out, it's a sewer problem, so call Thames Water on 0800 316 9800.
I live near Lingfield. Are my sewers Thames Water's?
Not necessarily. Tandridge is split: Surrey County Council says Thames Water covers about 60% of the district, and Southern Water runs the sewage works at Lingfield. Check which company sends your sewerage bill, or ask Thames Water, which can tell you who covers the rest. Southern Water's number for blocked sewers is 0330 303 0368.
My soakaway in Camberley has stopped draining. Can you fix it?
Often, yes. On sandy ground an old soakaway often fails because silt and leaves have clogged it, and jetting it out starts from £150. If it sits on a clay seam, or the fill has collapsed, cleaning won't last and it may need rebuilding. We'll tell you which before you pay for anything. See soakaway repair.
